Grower Feature: Everything Sprouts

CPW has a new primary vendor for sprouts and wheatgrass- Minneapolis-based Everything Sprouts! Everything Sprouts is a collaboration of three longstanding local growers. Pyramid Sprouters began in 1979 in Rockford Minnesota as a small, family-run operation, and Calco Sprouts was founded in Minneapolis in 1991 by fifth-generation mung bean growers from Japan. Additionally, Calco acquired southeast Minnesota’s River Valley Sprouts, purveyor of fresh bean sprouts, in 2024 when the owner retired.

Everything Sprouts grows six varieties of sprouts, wheatgrass, and six sprout blends- all of which are certified organic- and supplies throughout Minnesota, western Wisconsin, and northern Iowa. All their sprouts are raised hydroponically, meaning without the use of soil. Hydroponic growing allows for a higher, more consistently successful yield, and no degradation to cropland. Their team of fourteen expert growers uses finely-honed practices passed down five generations of sprout growers from Taiwan.

Now, over thirty years later, the founders of Calco Sprouts and Pyramid Sprouters act as consultants to the current management and operations of Everything Sprouts.

We carry their alfalfa, broccoli, salad blend and bean sprouts in retail packaging. Everything Sprouts has also recently become our primary source of wheatgrass- another nutritional powerhouse and widely considered a superfood. We carry both the retail-ready wheatgrass cups, and a specialty two-pound bulk cut product. CPW’s primary focus will be on the bulk size, which was specially developed for us to sell to food service operations, like delis and juice bars.

I’ve worked with Everything Sprouts for a few years… and they have consistently provided superior quality sprouts and are great to work with. They began producing the two lb. cut wheatgrass packs just for us upon request.

The humble sprout is far more than meets the eye. They’ve been proven to enhance protein intake, and can assist with carbohydrate digestion. At five to seven days old, sprouts are more nutritionally packed than their full-grown counterparts. If you’re a little behind on your vegetable intake and need a quick way to catch up, eat a cup of broccoli sprouts. With one cup of sprouts, you’re getting the same nutritional benefits as 50 (yes, fifty) cups of broccoli! Sprouts are packed with vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. We’re talking Vitamins C, A, and K, and B vitamins like riboflavin, folate, and thiamin which are essential in energy production. If that wasn’t enough, they’re also rich in zinc, copper and manganese. So much more than a crunchy sandwich topper!
